Our Music

As a church, it’s often helpful to step back and consider the ways that music can support our services and meetings. A leading place to begin is with some of Mary Baker Eddy’s words in her definition of church:

“The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick” (Science and Health, p. 583).

To the degree that our weekly meetings, services, and the Sunday School classes are imbued with the Christ do members and attendees experience the tangible ways the church proves its utility, elevates the race, rouses dormant understanding, and heals.

It is the Christ that leads the way. The music in a church is needed, and is there to support and enrich Christly, church activities. As we move forward into 2018, we are looking carefully at the delicate balance between our church activities and the ways that music and musicians can best be a part of them. We know that this sincere care and focus will only bless our church and all of the musicians who have and will work with us.

Lana will not have a contract as of the end of January. As her time with us is ending, she is graciously playing until we have a new musician at the organ and piano. We are auditioning musicians now. We are grateful for her years of beautiful, thoughtful playing and faithful service to our church, and know that her career will continue to expand and enrich the Albuquerque community.
