The Biblical story of Nehemiah has all the elements of an adventure&mdashstrong character, suspense, action, conflict. But even more important, it tells of a great leader who loved God and cared about his people. Tempted and taunted in all sorts of ways, Nehemiah remained confident that God was guiding him: "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease . . .?" (Neh. 6:3). Children will identify with the drama of Nehemiah's perseverance and loyalty to his people. They can easily draw their own conclusions as to the value of trusting God and see how God cares for those who trust Him. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christ Science, writes: "Love for God and man is the true incentive and freedom in both healing and teaching. . . . Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action." (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 454).
