IN MEMORIAM (from Kay & Gregg) January 13, 2018
Today our mom, “Miss Betty” passed at 2:41am. Born October 3, 1920 and christened Retta Mildred Nicholson, she had a wonderful, happy life, choosing to simply be known as Betty Flynn.
Mom was born in Des Moines, Iowa, along with an older sister Helen and a younger sister Margaret, and youngest sibling brother Murdoch, to parents Thelma and Murdoch Sr.
Des Moines was home until graduating from high school. From there the family moved to Los Angeles, California. Her father was a master stone mason and worked on many large public courthouses, libraries and capital buildings. Thelma was an accomplished seamstress, a skill that Betty developed with equal proficiency.
Los Angeles is also where Betty met the love of her life, Daniel Bruce Flynn (Danno), with whom she shared 65 happy years of marriage.
Dan and Betty are survived by their two children Kay and Gregg.
Betty met Dan at church, and their Christian Science faith became a cornerstone of their lives.
Betty will be remembered for her grace, elegance and a soft smile. She led a quiet, happy, healthy, moral life. Strongly independent, after Dan’s passing in 2010, Betty continued to live on her own, only giving up driving and moving to assisted care during the last 8 months of her long life.
Cheers to you mom... you lived your life just the way you wanted, and passed peacefully. We love you and will always cherish the presence of your memory. We are grateful you have moved on to be with dad and God.
